The Vigo Airport ( IATA code VGO , ICAO code LEVX , gal. Aeroporto de Vigo , span. Aeropuerto de Vigo ) is a commercial airport in Galicia (Spain) in the extreme northwest of the Iberian Peninsula . It used to be called Aeropuerto de Vigo-Peinador or Aeropuerto de Peinador for short .
Location and transport links
The airport is eight kilometers east of Vigo's city center, near the municipalities of Redondela and Mos Vigo.
The airport can be reached quickly from the border with Portugal in the south, 25 km away, via the Autovia del Atlantico (A-55) and Autopista del Atlantico (AP-9), which goes further north towards Pontevedra . From Ourense in the east comes the Autovia de las Rias Baixas (A-52), which continues to Vigos city center. The new VG-20 bypass motorway in the south of Vigo is faster to get to the west of the city. The Autopista do Val Miñor (AG-57) runs a piece of the same route with the VG-20 towards the southwest (Nigrán, Gondomar).
The airport is also integrated into local public transport by buses .
