The Carretera Nacional NI is a national road in Spain . Today the route only exists on a 96-kilometer section parallel to the AP-1 motorway .
course
The Carretera Nacional NI led from the capital Madrid via Burgos , Vitoria-Gasteiz , Donostia-San Sebastián to the French border, where it was connected to Départementstraße 810 , which was signposted as French national road 10 until 2006 . This route was established around 1940.
The kilometer 0 is located in Madrid on the "Puerta del Sol" square and this is marked with a plaque embedded in the ground since 1950. This was replaced by a new badge in 2009 due to heavy wear and tear.
In many sections, the national road has already been replaced or expanded to become the A-1 motorway. These are the Madrid - Burgos and Miranda de Ebro - Donostia-San Sebastián sections . Between Burgos and Miranda de Ebro, the AP-1 motorway runs parallel to the existing NI.
Until 2010, the designation of the NI was still to be found at Donostia-San Sebastián and Irun , before the provincial government of Gipuzkoa , which is responsible for the administration of the section within the borders of the province of Gipuzkoa, added the section at Donostia-San Sebastián to the names Gl-11 and Gl-20 were rededicated and the section between Donostia-San Sebastián and the French border was redesignated as Gl-636 .
The sections that were not expanded to form the A-1 motorway were rededicated to the Carretera Nacional N-Ia .
