Tvrtko Švob

Tvrtko Švob (born July 4, 1917 in Zagreb ; † July 3, 2008 in Zagreb) was a Yugoslav or Croatian biologist .

Life

Tvrtko Švob was banned from studying in the Independent State of Croatia because of anti-fascist activities and imprisoned several times. He joined the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army as a medic and veterinarian . After the end of the Second World War he was able to continue his studies in veterinary medicine at the University of Zagreb , which he completed with a doctorate. In addition to veterinary medicine, he also dealt with various specialist areas of biology , namely morphophysiology , genetics , ichthyology and anthropology .

In 1959 he became a lecturer at the University of Sarajevo , in 1962 an associate professor and in 1968 a full professor. He published numerous books and essays. In 1977 he retired, but still taught at the newly founded University of Tuzla . Most recently he lived in Zagreb for many years.

Tvrtko Švob was married to the biologist Melita Švob (* 1931).

He died the day before his 91st birthday and was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery .
