San Martín de Oscos is a city and also a municipality in the Autonomous Community of Asturias, in northern Spain .
location
The municipality is bordered by Illano in the north, Grandas de Salime in the south, Pesoz in the west and in the east by Santa Eulalia de Oscos and Villanueva de Oscos .
history
Finds from the Stone Age confirm the early settlement of the region. This is how dolmens were found, which are still very impressive evidence of this era. In the neighboring communities still bear witness cairns and several hill forts from the settlement by gallaeci and Asturians .
geology
land
The subsoil, consisting mainly of limestone and slate , with Pico La Vaga (1,081 m) as the highest point, is typical of the region.
Waters
The municipality is crossed by the Río Navia and some of its tributaries, Ahío, Sotuelo, Ferreira and San Martín.
climate
As in large parts of Asturias, the proximity to the Gulf Stream means that the climate here is almost Mediterranean, with warm summers and mild winters, and relatively strong storms in spring and autumn.
economy
As in much of Asturias, agriculture is the main industry here. Due to the large forest areas, forestry is also very active here. Trade and production only take place in medium-sized companies.
