Bimenes is a Spanish municipality ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds to the municipio in the rest of Spain) in the autonomous region of Asturias . It borders on Siero and Nava to the north and east , Laviana and San Martín del Rey Aurelio to the south, and Nava again to the west. The main town is Martimporra .

history

As almost everywhere in Asturias, a settlement of the region can be proven since the Paleolithic . In particular, the burial mounds at "Piedrafita" and "Lancosa" still bear witness to it.
Wall castles on the "Pico Castiello", in "La Millar" and "Santa Cristina" were built to protect the mines and the extensive trade routes that are still visible today.

The name of the place was first mentioned in 1161 in documents from the monastery of San Vicente (Oviedo).
Until the 19th century, the Concejo was ruled and administered by regional families and the Archdiocese of Oviedo.
