history
Finds in the places Valduno and Soto bear witness to a settlement as early as the Paleolithic . The continuing, indeed increasing population is more finds from the Neolithic period in the caves of La Paloma , La Ancenia and Las Mestas and several hill forts revealed today.
From the time of the Roman occupation, the road from Astorga to Lugo de Llanera , as well as smaller fortifications , can still be viewed and walked on. The first Christian sacred buildings such as the monasteries of Santa María de Valsera, San Martín de Escamplero, San Juan de Trasmonte and San Pedro de Nora , which belonged to the diocese of Oviedo , date from the reign of the Asturian kings . Persistent disputes between the bishops of Oviedo and Lugo prompted King Alfonso VII to convene a meeting on the papal recommendation to end this discussion. Here it was decided that the diocese of Oviedo would receive full responsibility for the areas around the rivers Rio Nora and Rio Nalón . In 1421, Las Regueras was granted city rights by Bishop Diego as one of the last cities .
The dependency ended in 1587, by decree of Philip II , who ordered the famous confiscation of ecclesiastical property by the crown to pay for expenses the Spanish crown had to bear due to the various wars. Since then, Las Regueras has been constituted as an independent municipality with the administrative seat Viado .
Geography and climate
Pleasantly mild summers alternate with mild, rarely harsh winters. In the high areas, winters can be quite severe.
Large forests with alder , poplar , oak and chestnut trees are typical for the community. The two rivers Rio Nalón and Rio Nora shape the wide valley. Traditionally, over 70% of employees are still employed in agriculture, especially in cattle breeding and dairy farming. The well-known " Queso Afuega'l Pitu ", a cheese made from raw milk from the cow, is the best-known product of this branch of industry.
