Ibias is a municipality ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds to the municipio in the rest of Spain) in the Autonomous Region of Asturias .
history
Until the Middle Ages
As almost everywhere in Asturias, dolmens testify to the early settlement of the region. These buildings can still be seen today in the towns of Seroiro, Pradías, Andeo and Villares de Arriba. At the places Cecos, Villameirín, Fondodevilla, Sena and Laguía, remnants of ramparts were found, which were probably built to protect the extracted gold. The mines were later also taken over by the Romans who, however, did not leave any major structures behind.
Til today
The first documentary mention comes from the beginning of the 10th century from the will of Fruela II, who named the monasteries Sante Marie de Zeques and Sancti Antonini de Ibias .
During the Spanish War of Independence , the community was a constant source of unrest with several minor skirmishes .
During the Carlist uprisings , the administrative seat changed back and forth between Grandas de Salime , Tineo and Degaña until Ibias finally became independent.
