Allande is a municipality ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds to the municipio in the rest of Spain) in the Autonomous Region of Asturias .

The main town is Pola de Allande ( Asturian La Puela ). The highest point is the Picu Pachón at 1,416 meters.

Population development

Allande is one of the least populated municipalities in Asturias. Similar to the rest of rural Asturias, Allande is continuously losing population. In the 20th century there were two phases in which the population declined particularly sharply: From 1900 to 1930, many residents emigrated to the New World, especially to Cuba , Puerto Rico , Argentina and the Dominican Republic . The second period of emigration began in 1960 and was triggered by the de-industrialization of rural regions. In it the community lost about two thirds of its population.
