history
The oldest evidence of human settlement dates back to the Neolithic . The Filadoira dolmens are still impressive evidence of the architecture of the megalithic culture .
Sustained settlement from the Castro culture to the Roman Empire is evidenced by the numerous military fortifications on the trade routes, which were primarily intended to protect the gold mining areas and transports.
Pola de Allande was first mentioned in writing in the 10th century, and in a (forged) document the church was granted economic rights in the community. Large parts of the region were donated to the monastery of San Juan Bautista in Corias in 1044 . There were conflicts with the Archdiocese of Oviedo in 1262 and 1268, when Bishop Pedro set the tithe to be paid at 110 maravedis . Allande allied with the council of the municipality of Avilés and was able to maintain order. Alfonso IX finally granted the privilege for the two parishes to be the official pilgrimage route for the Camino de Santiago .
