history
In the cave of Cova del Demo (Cueva del Demonio en castellano) finds from the Bronze Age were discovered, dating from 1500 to 1100 BC. Have been dated. Proof of the long settlement of the entire region.
Dolmens and barrows in the villages Llaviada , Penouta (2004 by grave robbers damaged) and Los Mazos are further evidence of these early cultures.
Coin and ceramic finds in Vega de Ouria prove that there was further settlement and extensive trade relations, even during the occupation by the Romans .
In the Middle Ages , the region between the Rio Navia and Rio Eo rivers played a subordinate role. Felipe II founded the largest church in the region in 1584 .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the region was first designated as the municipality of Boal.
geology
land
The mountain ranges consisting mainly of limestone and sandstone with the Pico de la Bobia ( 1201 msnm ) as the highest elevation contain rich deposits of tungsten , some of which are even mined in open-cast mining.
Waters
The community is located on the middle reaches of the Navia . Several small streams and tributaries ensure sufficient irrigation of the region.
economy
The region is still characterized by livestock farming , mainly cattle and sheep are farmed here, with the related businesses such as cheese dairy and leather production and processing. The region is known for the honey produced here , of which the annual production is at least 20 tons.
While mining tungsten is an important source of income, it employs few people. The middle class can be found predominantly in the construction and commercial sectors.
The main employers are the medium-sized production and transport companies in nearby Castropol.
