Onís is a municipality in the autonomous region of Asturias , in northern Spain . Bounded to the north by Llanes , to the south by León , to the west by Cabrales and to the east by Cangas de Onís .

history

The first evidence of settlement can be found from the Neolithic Age . Various Indo-European tribes mixed with the native tribes. The first documentary mentions are dated with the invasion of the Roman legions . The area around Onis was an important enclave here during the wars between Rome and the Cantabrian tribes. The first alkali was used in 1504 . Under the reign of Juan González de Acebos , Onis fell to the Principality of Asturias in 1594.
