Pravia is a municipality in the autonomous region of Asturias in northern Spain .
geography
In the north the municipality is bounded by Candamo and Soto del Barco , in the south by Candamo and Salas , in the west by Cudillero and in the east by Soto del Barco.
The rivers Nalón , Narcea and Aranguín cross the municipality; Salmon have had their spawning area here for a long time due to the cleanliness of the waters .
geology
- Due to the formation in the Paleozoic , the soil consists mainly of sandstone , quartzite , dolomite , slate and limestone .
- Several smaller mountains with a height of up to 678 meters are a wonderful hiking area for nature lovers.
- The region is criss-crossed by prairies , pine forests and eucalyptus trees .
climate
Due to the proximity to the sea, there is a climate here with summer temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius and in winter rarely below 0 degrees. Spring and autumn are often rainy but mild.
history
As in all of Asturias, finds from the Stone Age are evidence of the long settlement of the entire region. Gold and other materials were already mined in the distant past, especially along the Nalón .
The first documentary mention is from the year 774 when King Silo established his seat of government in nearby Santianes .
During the reign of Alfonso II , it was also the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias .
economy
First and foremost, agriculture is still the main employer in the region. Emmer , rye , wheat and hemp are mainly grown here . The most important field crop is the faba , which is needed for the fabada dish . Construction is the region's second largest employer, followed by commerce and administration. Tourism in the region is increasing.
