Franconian Empire
- Easter: Charlemagne moves to Rome to see Pope Hadrian I and confirms the Pippin donation .
- June 4 : During the Langobardenfeldzuges of Charlemagne, the Franks conquer after nine months of siege the capital of the Lombards, Pavia , and later Bergamo .
- June 5th : The day after the capture of Pavia, Charlemagne assumes the title of "King of the Lombards". In this office he replaces the defeated Desiderius , who is banished to a Frankish monastery. Desiderius' son Adelchis flees to Byzantium , but no longer plays a role. The integration of the Longobard Empire into the Franconian Empire is strengthened by the appointment of Franconian nobles.
- September 7 : Charlemagne gives Abbot Fulrad of Saint-Denis, near Paris, the "Villa Herbrechtingen," first recorded mention Herbrechtingens , monastery founded by Fulrad
- The Saxons invade the Franconian border area. They besieged the Büraburg , where the population of Fritzlar fled, in vain. Fritzlar itself and the Petri Church there fell victim to looting and pillage. The Saxons are driven out again by advancing Franks.
