On January 1, 1977, the previously independent community became part of the Wettenberg district of the newly founded city of Lahn as part of the Hessian regional reform . When it was dissolved on August 1, 1979 Wettenberg became an independent municipality in the district of Gießen.

Natural space

In addition to a richly structured agricultural use around the locality, the district is characterized by a high proportion of forests (Krofdorfer Forest and Launsbacher Forest). The Holzwäldchen nature reserve is a real gem , created by removing soil for the construction of the A480 motorway embankment. The 9-hectare reserve is located south of the village and is important for various bird, amphibian and insect species. From a species protection point of view, the high number of house martins is outstanding (2006: over 400 breeding pairs, 2007: 350 breeding pairs), thanks to intensive conservation efforts and the construction of the swallow house .
