Launsbach is the smallest of the three districts of Wettenberg in the central Hessian district of Gießen .

geography

Launsbach is about three kilometers west of Giessen . The village is located on the eastern slope of Wettenberg. The original town center, in which the old church still stands today, is located at the foot of this small mountain.

history

Launsbach was first mentioned in a document in 1242 when Giselbert von Eschborn donated a hoof (a farm) in Werdorf to the Marienstift in Wetzlar . According to the deed of gift, one of the previous owners of these hooves is said to have been a Reinher von Launsbach (Luinspach). This is the first time that Launsbach is mentioned - indirectly as the seat of a nobleman. The settlement must have been founded long before 1242. Today it is assumed that the origins are to be found in the 10th or 11th century.

On January 1, 1977, the previously independent community became part of the Wettenberg district of the newly founded city of Lahn as part of the Hessian regional reform . When it was dissolved, Wettenberg became an independent municipality in the district of Gießen on August 1, 1979.

In 1992 Launsbach celebrated its 750th anniversary with a big party. In the course of this event, the center of Launsbach around the historic church was also renewed in the 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Launsbach has its own industrial park in which several medium-sized companies are based. There is also a car dealership and some craft and service companies based there. Due to the proximity to the motorway (less than five minutes), these companies have very good transport links.

For some years now, companies have also had the option of setting up shop in a business park in the Wettenberg community. The commercial space is located directly in front of the Launsbach village entrance.

In the center of Launsbach, which was built in the 1990s, there is a branch of the Volksbank Mittelhessen . A branch of the Sparkasse Wetzlar was also located there until 2016 . There is also a bakery and a branch of the Wettenberg community. Within Launsbach there is also a small supermarket, a beverage market and a butcher's shop.
