According to the 2019 Sparkasse Ranking List, it ranks 158th in terms of total assets. It has 27 branches / self-service locations and employs 480 people. A merger with Sparkasse Gießen , brought up in October 2008 by the Wetzlar CEO, was rejected a few weeks later by the special purpose association of Sparkasse Gießen.

In 2006 the Sparkasse Wetzlar entered into a cooperation with the Sparkasse Gießen and Grünberg for international business . Together they founded "S-International Mittelhessen".
