history

History of the Sparkasse of the Hochtaunuskreis

Official savings bank Homburg

On July 6, 1825, the Sparkasse für das Amt Homburg (Amtssparkasse) was founded, a private-law savings bank based on the model of the Frankfurter Sparkasse from 1822.

After a cautious start to business, the introduction of loan books (savings books) in 1833 led to an expansion of the business.

With the establishment of the Obertaunuskreis in 1867, the Amtssparkasse expanded its activities to include the entire district.

Since the Amtssparkasse was not fully secure and almost went bankrupt in 1889, the conversion into a public legal form was discussed for a long time. After this was not wanted by the owners, the Kreissparkasse was founded as a competing company. It was not until 1920 that the Amtssparkasse Homburg was integrated into the Kreissparkasse of the Obertaunuskreis.

Kreissparkasse of the Obertaunuskreis

The district council of the Obertaunuskreis decided on June 27, 1906 to found a public district savings bank that was secure. This Kreissparkasse of the Obertaunuskreis started its business on January 2nd, 1907. The first director was Philipp Stumpff, who ran the Kreissparkasse until 1935. In 1908 the Sparkasse already had savings deposits of 910,009 gold marks , which rose to 2,397,701 marks by 1914 (today's purchasing power € 9,669,161). After the assets of the Sparkasse had almost completely lost their value during the inflation in 1923 , the Sparkasse then grew strongly again and at the end of 1926 was able to show one million Rentenmarks in savings.

The Kreissparkasse of the Obertaunuskreis became an institution under public law through its new statutes of September 22, 1932. Until then she was employed as a member of the district administration. The Obertaunuskreis remained the guarantor .

In 1933, the Kreissparkasse took over the small savings and lending banks that still existed in Oberursel (founded in 1858), Oberhöchstadt, Köppern, Gonzenheim, Seulberg and Weißkirchen.

On January 31, 1935, Stumpff left the Sparkasse and Heinrich Trüller became the new director. At this point in time the savings amounted to 4.6 million Reichsmarks .

During the National Socialist era , the savings banks became part of the regime's war financing. Measures such as Eiserne Sparen increased the savings deposits of the Sparkasse des Obertaunuskreis, which amounted to around 7.5 million Reichsmarks in 1938 to 39 million Reichsmarks by the end of the war (to which another 7.5 million sight deposits were added). These funds flowed from the savings bank into war financing through government bonds and loans to the state.

After the end of the war, Director Trüller was deposed by the American military authorities. The new director Wilhelm Dannhof ran the savings bank until 1963. His term of office began under extremely poor conditions. The Americans had confiscated the savings bank business premises in the District Office. After the rooms could be used again in 1946, however, the archive disappeared. The currency reform led to a decrease in savings deposits from 43 million Reichsmarks to less than 2 million DM. Equity also fell from 1.4 million to 175,000 marks. The following economic miracle also caused the Sparkasse's business to grow rapidly. In 1956 the deposits amounted to 23 million DM, in 1963 already 83 million and in 1966 almost 130 million.

The new building of the Sparkasse headquarters in a prime location in Bad Homburg also contributed to this. The Sparkasse acquired the property of the Kurtheater next to the Kurhaus on Louisenstrasse , which was destroyed in the war . The new savings bank building was opened on April 18, 1953.

Kreissparkasse of the Hochtaunuskreis

In 1972, as part of the Hessian district reform, the Obertaunuskreis and the Usingen district are merged to form the Hochtaunuskreis. Since there was no savings bank in the old Usingen district, the Kreissparkasse expanded into the new locations. Branches were opened in Neu-Anspach , Usingen , Wehrheim and Grävenwiesbach . The name was changed to "Kreissparkasse des Hochtaunuskreis".

In line with the development of the district, new branches were added in 1975: Glashütten and Schmitten , Weilrod , Burgholzhausen vor der Höhe and Ober-Erlenbach .

On April 1, 1911, it was decided to set up a “Kreissparkasse for the Höchst District ” and opened on July 6, 1911.

On April 1, 1928, Höchst was incorporated into Frankfurt and the Main-Taunus district was founded from the remaining parts of the old districts of Höchst and Wiesbaden and 13 communities in the Obertaunus district. The Kreissparkasse for the district of Höchst was renamed “Kreissparkasse des Main-Taunus-Kreis”. An expansion of the business area was associated with the regional reform. In addition, there were branches in Flörsheim am Main , Wicker , Weilbach and Eddersheim from the former Kreissparkasse Wiesbadener Land. Furthermore, branches were opened in communities in the Obertaunus district: Schwalbach am Taunus , Eppstein , Kelkheim , Schloßborn and Glashütten . However, in Hofheim , the district town of the Main-Taunus district , it was not until December 18, 1952 that a branch was opened.

History of the Taunus Sparkasse

After the decision of the two district councils on the merger to form Taunus Sparkasse on March 16, 1990, the merger took effect on January 1, 1991. Since mergers between savings banks were not provided for in the Savings Bank Act at that time, the Hessian state parliament had to decide on the merger in the second instance. The new institute had total assets of 4.5 billion marks, managed deposits of 3.3 billion marks and employed 774 people. Hans-Georg Pilz, who already held the position at the Kreissparkasse of the Main-Taunus-Kreis, became the chairman of the Taunus Sparkasse. The Taunus Sparkasse was the third largest savings bank in Hesse and has three main offices, namely in Höchst, Hofheim and Bad Homburg.

On January 1, 1999, Hans-Georg Pilz resigned from the board of directors of Taunus Sparkasse and Kreissparkasse after 27 years. In the first quarter of 1999, all internal departments moved into the newly built "service center" in Bad Homburg.

With this step, Taunus Sparkasse parted with its own brokerage business and entered into a partnership with Corpus Sireo GmbH. The company was renamed S Corpus Immobilienvermittlungs GmbH after the takeover. The cooperation ended on June 30, 2009. Since the end of April 2010, Taunus Sparkasse has been working with S-Landesimmobilien GmbH, a subsidiary of LBS Hessen-Thüringen, to broker real estate.

Taunus Sparkasse has changed its market presence and logo several times since the merger in 1991. The changes so far related to the logo, spelling and font. The Taunus Sparkasse completed its last relaunch in mid-2009. At this point in time, the Taunus Sparkasse introduced the corporate identity specified by the German Savings Banks and Giro Association , which consists of simple lettering and the typical Sparkassen-S in the color HKS13 . At the end of 2011, Taunus Sparkasse began to add the new logo to the neon signs on the branches and the Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage. Before the changeover, the Taunus Sparkasse was represented on the market with 4 different logos.

The Taunus Sparkasse belongs to the deposit protection system of the savings banks. This backup takes place on three levels. First of all, the regional savings bank association is obliged to support a distressed savings bank through the regional savings bank support fund (cash fund). If its funds are insufficient, a supra-regional compensation is made from funds from all Sparkasse support funds and the liability association with the security institutions of the Landesbanken and Landesbausparkassen. If the support of the Sparkasse and thus its depositors from these institutions is also insufficient, the statutory deposit protection of the Deposit Protection and Investor Compensation Act applies . Claims against the guarantors, by whomever, were ruled out after the Brussels Concordance . The old guarantor liability only applies to claims that arose before July 18, 2005 and have a term up to December 31, 2015 .
