The Stadt- und Kreis-Sparkasse Darmstadt (usually called Sparkasse Darmstadt for short ) is a savings bank based in Darmstadt and was founded in 1808. According to the company, this makes it one of the ten oldest savings banks in Germany. In 2008 the Sparkasse Darmstadt celebrated its 200th anniversary with various events in the region.
Sparkasse Darmstadt reported total assets of EUR 5.006 billion in the 2019 financial year and customer deposits of EUR 3.844 billion. According to the 2019 Sparkasse Ranking List, it ranks 65th in terms of total assets. It has 42 branches / self-service locations and employs 783 people.
Main office
The main office of the Sparkasse is located on the property on which the Palais of Landgrave Christian used to be, which in 1838 after renovations became the Ständehaus , seat of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse . The Ständehaus was destroyed in the Second World War.

Jubilee Foundation
In 1983, the Sparkasse set up a foundation on the occasion of its 175th anniversary. The foundation was established against the background of the Sparkasse's social commitment. The purposes of the anniversary foundation are the promotion of art and culture, education and science, the environment, sport, youth and elderly care as well as health and welfare, especially in the area of the sponsors, the city of Darmstadt and the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg. The foundation capital of the anniversary foundation is 10 million euros. This capital is permanently available to the region and allows sustainable distribution activities from the income. The two projects "Strengths for Life" and "Pro Nature and Environment from the Beginning" are of particular importance.

The Sparkasse Darmstadt is one of the largest training companies in the region. The Sparkasse Darmstadt was awarded the TÜV certificate "Premium Training" by TÜV Hessen .
Ludwig Metzger Prize
The Ludwig Metzger Prize, named after the politician Ludwig Metzger , is awarded annually to non-profit associations, institutions and other organizations. The endowment of the prize in the amount of 75,000 euros comes from the income from the PS lot saving. A portion of the purchase price of each PS lot is made available for the Ludwig Metzger Prize.
Savings Banks Finance Group
The Sparkasse Darmstadt is part of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and thus also belongs to its liability association.
