The Sparkasse Gera-Greiz is one of the largest savings banks in Thuringia . It is an institution under public law .

Its sponsors are the district of Greiz and the independent city of Gera . The seat of the Sparkasse is Gera. The chairmanship of the board of directors changes every two years and six months between the mayor of Gera and the district administrator of the district of Greiz.

The Sparkasse Gera-Greiz is part of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and thus also belongs to its liability association. history

The Sparkasse Gera-Greiz was created on March 1st, 1995 through the merger of the Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Gera with the Kreissparkasse Greiz-Zeulenroda, which in turn was created in 1994 from the merger of the Kreissparkasse Greiz with the Kreissparkasse Zeulenroda . The three predecessor institutes each came into being in 1952 as part of the reorganization of the savings banks in the GDR .
