The special legal framework in which the Sparkasse operates is formed by the Hessian Savings Bank Act (HSpG) and the statutes issued by the district council and the city council. Deposit insurance
The bank is part of the security system of the Deutsche Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. This joint liability guarantees the liquidity and solvency of the institutions involved. The Haftungsverbund consists of eleven regional savings bank support funds, the security reserve of the Landesbanken and Girozentralen and the security fund of the Landesbausparkassen. All savings banks are members of the responsible regional savings bank support fund. Should an institution get into economic difficulties, it will be supported by the respective fund in order to guarantee liquidity and solvency. If a regional savings bank support fund does not have sufficient funds for a possible support, a supra-regional compensation occurs. The other Sparkassen support funds would then participate in support. In a further step, the entire resources of all Sparkasse support funds, the security reserve of the Landesbanken and the security fund of the Landesbausparkassen are available if required.
