history

The bank is a financial institution that emerged in 2006 from the merger of Sparkasse Wetterau and Sparkasse Vogelsbergkreis. Sparkasse Nidda, founded in 1833, is the oldest of the predecessor institutions that were merged into Sparkasse Wetterau. The Sparkasse therefore celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2008.

Sparkasse Oberhessen became known throughout Germany in 2017 through the embezzlement of almost € 9,000,000 from an employee over the course of 10 years, which was not discovered by the internal audit, but only through a suspicious transaction report from another bank.
