history

Logo until January 21, 2015

The bank is the legal successor to Landes-Credit-Casse Nassau. It was founded on January 22nd, 1840 by the Nassau Duke Adolph . Until the beginning of 2015, the colors of the associated noble house were also the Sparkasse colors: orange and blue. The Landes-Credit-Casse was set up due to the lack of a banking institute in the Duchy of Nassau and the issue of tithe redemption. The institute had the following tasks:

  • Financing and handling of the tithe redemption in Nassau
  • Administration of state funds
  • Acceptance of deposits and savings
  • Granting of mortgages and loans within the limits of the available means.

In addition, there was the authority to issue banknotes, so-called Landes-Credit-Casse-Scheine, which was the first time that paper money replaced silver coins in the Duchy of Nassau.

In 1869 the bank was split into the Nassauische Landesbank and the Nassauische Sparkasse.

By Prussian law of March 26, 1886, the business area of Nassauische Sparkasse was extended to the administrative region of Wiesbaden with effect from April 1, 1886 to the extent specified in the Prussian district regulations for the province of Hessen-Nassau of June 7, 1885.

At the end of 1960, the Nassauische Sparkasse transferred its branches in the districts of Biedenkopf , Oberlahn , Dill , Wetzlar and Gießen to the local district and district savings banks . The business area of Nassauische Sparkasse remained unchanged.

Naspa Dublin

Until mid-2012, Naspa had its own subsidiary in Ireland . Naspa Dublin was responsible for the capital market business within the Sparkasse. As the equity ratio of the Naspa steadily decreased, the Sparkassen- und Giroverband Hessen-Thüringen announced in April 2012 that the association was taking over Naspa Dublin plc for 250 million euros. After the takeover, the association commissioned Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen to handle the Naspa Dublin. As a result of the sale, the mostly very low equity ratio of Naspa rose from 7.3 to 10 percent. The portfolio was valued at € 4.2 billion when it was acquired. As part of the liquidation, Naspa Dublin ended its operating business in 2013 and returned your banking license .
