history

Like Altchemnitz , Altendorf describes the place as an older settlement in contrast to Chemnitz. Wolf hunters also settled here, who settled between today's Waldenburger Strasse and Limbacher Strasse . The place initially belonged to the Rochlitz office , sometimes even until 1831 , then to the Chemnitz office .

Although a linen weaver worked in the 16th century, Altendorf remained a farming community until the 19th century. Only then did Altendorf develop into a workers' housing estate. Mainly workers from the neighboring Chemnitz lived here. So it made sense to include Altendorf in Chemnitz, which was completed in 1900.

As early as 1905, the institute for the blind was at the Flemming street founded. Today it is a rehabilitation facility for blind and visually impaired people, where various professional training courses are offered. In 1915 today's "Hospital Küchwald" was built near the Crimmitschauer Forest and in 1918 the "Women's Clinic". The “infant clinic” followed in 1926/27. Since 1982 there has been a new building between the “Frauenklinik” and “Hospital Küchwald”, which has been modernized and expanded since 2005.

Between 1963 and 1966 the "Flemming area" was created on the northwestern edge of Altendorf. It is considered to be the first new building area in Chemnitz. A total of 3,700 apartments for around 25,000 people were built here.

The Crimmitschauer Wald , between Borna and Altendorf, has probably been named after Abbot Ulrich von Crimmitschau from the Chemnitz Benedictine monastery since the 14th century . The forest was mainly used by the monastery for hunting. After the dissolution of the monastery, only 21 hectares of the forest belonged to the Chemnitz town hall. Only with the incorporation of Altendorf in 1900 did the larger, remaining part follow. Today the entire forest belongs to the Borna district. The Max Planck Stadium, the Küchwald Hospital and the Botanical Garden are adjacent to the Crimmitschau Forest.

traffic

The CVAG local buses connect Altendorf to lines 31, 32, 62, 72 and N17 of the night network.

Until 1988 you could still get to Altendorf by tram line 3 via Limbacher Straße . This line, which was still running on the 925 mm lane, was then replaced by a bus line. You could get to Waldenburger Straße until October 15, 1983 with line 8 (with the final stop on Weststraße ).
