The following Chemnitz districts and communities border on Einsiedel (clockwise from the north): Erfenschlag , Adelsberg , Altenhain , the communities Amtsberg and Burkhardtsdorf , as well as the two Chemnitz districts Klaffenbach and Harthau .

history

Einsiedel was probably founded as a Waldhufendorf around 1200 and was first mentioned in a document in 1254 as Kleine Einsiedelsche Pflege . Erfenschlag, Reichenhain , Dittersdorf , Weißbach , Kemtau and Einsiedel itself belonged to the Einsiedel lordship . From 1696, Einsiedel, together with Weißbach, Dittersdorf, Kemtau, Reichenhain and Erfenschlag, belonged to the Weißbach lordship with Dittersdorf in the Electoral Saxon office of Wolkenstein . It was not until 1832 that Einsiedel took office and in 1875 became part of the administrative authority in Chemnitz .

Characterized by agriculture up to the 18th century, the townscape changed noticeably from around 1820. In those years the first stocking factories and spinning mills were built in Einsiedel - the age of industrialization began. The next big boom came in 1875 with the connection to the railway network of the Chemnitz – Aue – Adorf / Vogtland line ( Zwönitztalbahn ).

Berbisdorf, first mentioned in a document in 1381, was incorporated into Einsiedel in 1935. Berbisdorf was probably settled around 100 years before it was first mentioned in a document. The name Berbisdorf is probably due to one of the first settlers named Berwig. For several centuries Berbisdorf was a purely farming village and remained so until the end of the 19th century. As a result of the merger, Einsiedel expanded to almost 1050 hectares, and the population rose by 831 to 6176.

In air raids on Chemnitz on March 5, 1945, Einsiedel was also 93% destroyed. The place is therefore considered to be the most severely damaged municipality in Saxony. The Jakobi Church and its tower also burned down in the attack.

Hermit coat of arms

In 1938/39 new coats of arms were awarded to 16 Saxon communities. For Einsiedel, this was done by ordinance of the Reich governor in Saxony. On November 11, 1938, the municipality of Einsiedel was granted permission to keep a wagon on the basis of Section 11 (2) of the German Municipal Code. This coat of arms was designed by the painter Böhmert in Dresden. It shows a hermit clad in black and blue with a hoe over his shoulder and a stick in his right hand, in the front part of the forked shield in blue a gold gear wheel, in the back part in black a gold plow iron. Talking coat of arms, which also expresses the industrial present and the rural origins of the place. For this purpose, the municipality is entitled to fly a flag in the colors gold (yellow) and blue. The decisive factor for the award of the coat of arms and the flag was the fact that the community was not only closed in terms of its spatial extent, but also in terms of its economic composition through the reorganization of the community in the 3rd Reich and the associated incorporation of the former Berbisdorf community into the Einsiedel community has found.

The Einsiedler brewery

On August 29, 1885, the machine manufacturer Emil Schwalbe founded the Einsiedler brewery , which is still one of the most striking points in Einsiedel.

After the Second World War , vacation stays in tents took place for the first time on the property on Dittersdorfer Weg, which was already established in 1916 by the Einsiedler Arbeiterturnverein Germania e. V. was acquired by a farmer. In 1951 the tent camp was expanded considerably and officially opened as the Palmiro Togliatti Central Pioneer Camp . In 1977 massive buildings were erected. Since 1991, the site has been used by a non-profit educational institution for training and retraining purposes.

Churches

After the Reformation was introduced in Saxony, Johann Marschner became the first Protestant pastor in Einsiedel in 1547.

In 2000 the sister church "Einsiedel - Reichenhain with Erfenschlag and Berbisdorf " was formed.

St. Jakobi Church in Einsiedel

The church, built by carpenter Ch. F. Uhlig from Altenhain from 1822 as a rectangular plastered building with valuable interior fittings, was consecrated in 1827. This building replaced a very dilapidated approx. 500 year old choir tower church . Uhlig used classicistic triangular gables on Tuscan columns and Tuscan pilasters to give the building a classical dignity. The Church of St. Jakobi was also destroyed in a bomb attack on Chemnitz on March 5, 1945. Only the surrounding walls of the nave and the tower were preserved. After the Second World War, great efforts were made to rebuild it over a long period of time . In 1949 the tower got a makeshift roof and new bells could be obtained. 1953 to 1958 a steel roof structure was built and the tower was built in a simplified form. The plans for the reconstruction came from Dr. Georg Laudeley from Chemnitz. The exterior architecture was restored by 1966, the interior in a modern, sober form with the sparing use of decorative elements. With the exception of the tower dome, the outer shape of the church was essentially restored to its original state during the reconstruction. The Wachau painter Werner Juza created a contemporary painting on the large wall surface behind the altar . A two-manual organ from the company Eule from Bautzen with 19 registers and 1248 pipes has been installed since 1977. The church is located on Harthauer Weg .
