Berbisdorf Church

Berbisdorf Church

Ecclesiastically, Berbisdorf belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Harthau until 1936 . On September 11, 1904, the foundation stone was laid for a separate church, which was consecrated on July 31, 1905. In 1928 the gas lighting in the church was switched to electric light. Legally, the Berbisdorf Church was a branch church of Harthau until it was re-parish to Einsiedel in 1936. During the bombing raids on Chemnitz on March 5, 1945, the church suffered only minor damage to the windows and roof. From 1953 to 1954 a community room was built under the organ gallery. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the interior was thoroughly renovated in 1955. In 1960 the tower was re-plastered and in 1976 the tower roof was re-covered with slate. A second renovation of the interior followed from 1985 to 1987. The tower cross had to be removed after a strong storm in 1993. In 1997 a bench heater was installed. In 2002 and 2003 the external plaster was renewed.

The three original bells of the church were cast in 1904 by the C. Albert Bierling company in Dresden. During the First World War , the two larger bells had to be handed in in 1917. They were melted down and replaced by bells from the Bierling company in 1921. In 1928 an electrical bell system was installed that is still in operation. In 1942, during the Second World War , the two big bells had to be turned off again. In 1964, the Fritz Morgenstern forge in Einsiedel manufactured a new bell cage, in which three new bells were wound in the same year. The last remaining bronze bell from 1904 was sold to Rodersdorf (Vogtland).
