Kirsten John
Kirsten John (born July 18, 1966 in Hanover ) is a German writer .
Life
Kirsten John studied German , history and philosophy at the University of Hanover until 1993 . She lives and works as a freelance writer and editor in Hanover and Amsterdam .
For her debut novel to learn to swim in blue (2001), which has been translated into several languages, she received the Lower Saxony Prize for Literature in 2001 and the City of Hanover's Kurt Morawietz Prize for Literature in 2002 . In it she tells the life story of the painter Katharina, "who interprets her story with color theory". The novel was reviewed in the feature sections of the NZZ , FR and SZ . In 2007 Kirsten John received an annual scholarship from the state of Lower Saxony for literature.
She subsequently published numerous books for children and young people . The reviewer Sonja Kessen said on Kulturradio about her story Dangerous Rabbits (2012) : “With simple clear words, the author tells how conflicts that float beneath the surface break out, how one is temporarily estranged and how new perspectives finally open up for everyone involved ". Under the pseudonym Marie Lucas, Kirsten John published the youth novel Between Eternal and Now in 2013 .
In 2009 John was a founding member of Lesestart Hannover .
