history

After the head of the City Library Hannover Carola Schelle-Wolff in 2004 reading network Hannover had initiated, which took place in the framework of which from 2005 Hanover harvest festivals take place. 2008 chose the Reading Foundation , with its nationwide campaign reading start around 20 volunteer pediatricians from Hanover, which since the so-called reading start sets as part of the child checkup U6 handed out to children of ten to twelve months.

In February 2009, the Hannover Reading Network organized a picture book festival in the pavilion on Raschplatz to kick off the “Reading Start Hannover” campaign , which was attended by around 1,500 visitors, including numerous families with children up to four years of age. Various partners in the reading network offered multilingual picture book cinema , finger games , table theater, reading aloud, singing, rhyming and much more. The children's book author and illustrator Ingo Siegner was the patron of the campaign . As a result, the director of the Hanover City Library, Carola Schelle-Wolff, together with the Hanoverian SPD councilwoman Birgit Nerenberg and Martina Meyer initiated the Reading Start Hanover association , which was founded on September 14th of that year in the city's new town hall . Ingo Siegner was a founding member and author of the club's logo , along with many other well-known personalities .

In 2010 the association published the brochure Gib mir ein A. Sprachförderung from the start , which is now distributed free of charge by Hanoverian pediatricians from the U3 check-up , but can also be downloaded from the Internet. After only 6% of children under 3 years of age in Hanover had an exclusively foreign nationality on January 1, 2008, but 44% had a migration background , “the language support brochure was published in Russian and Turkish as well as German ”.

The initiatives of the association, which are also recognized nationwide, such as the changes in children's reading and language development to be recorded by the paediatricians, are scientifically supported by the Leibniz University of Hanover , Institute for Special Education , and financially supported by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture (MWK) .

The content of Lesestart Hannover's own website was co-designed by students from the Alice Salomon School .
