Julia Zwehl

Julia Zwehl (born March 20, 1976 in Hanover ) is a former German hockey player , she won the Olympic gold medal in 2004.

Life

Julia Zwehl began playing hockey in Hanover, but then switched to Eintracht Braunschweig via Hamburg . After a fourth place at the Junior World Championship in 1997, the goalkeeper made her debut in the German national hockey team in the same year . Zwehl won her first title at the European Indoor Hockey Championships in 1998. At the 1998 World Championships , she received the bronze medal with the German team. She also won a medal at the 1999 European Championships in Cologne, this time silver after losing to the Netherlands in the final . At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2000 , Julia Zwehl and Birgit Beyer were nominated as goalkeepers for the German team, Zwehl played in three games, the German team took seventh place. After a long break, Julia Zwehl was back at the 2003 European Championships in Barcelona and won the bronze medal. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , Julia Zwehl was the second goalkeeper next to Louisa Walter , Zwehl was only used in a preliminary round match. After the final victory, Julia Zwehl also received the gold medal and the silver laurel leaf.

Julia Zwehl played a total of 93 international matches, 11 of them indoors.

In 2009 Julia Zwehl was a founding member of Lesestart Hannover .
