The Lutherviertel is Chemnitz 'district with the smallest area. It is bordered by the districts of Sonnenberg , Gablenz , Bernsdorf and Zentrum . It is on average 1.7 km from the city center.
The district is bounded by Augustusburger Strasse in the north, Clausstrasse in the east, Zschopauer Strasse in the south and the railway line between Chemnitz main station and Chemnitz Süd station in the west. The Luther Church gives it its name .
History and characteristics
Developed in the course of the Wilhelminian expansion of the city, the area is characterized by a square structure with multi-storey perimeter blocks from the turn of the century and the 1920s, as well as more open structures that were formed in the 1950s as part of the reconstruction after the severe destruction of the Second World War.
Between 1991 and 2001 the district lost 2,968 inhabitants (approx. 35%; city average 17.6%). The vacancy rate is almost 35% (city average: approx. 23%).
Due to its structural structures, the good transport infrastructure and its location close to the city center (approx. 10-20 minutes' walk through the park of the victims of fascism to the city center), the city of Chemnitz considers the Lutherviertel as a whole as a potentially very attractive residential area. The district is therefore to be promoted through various projects over the next few years, including relieving through traffic, building a cycle path from the Lutherviertel to the campus of the Technical University on Reichenhainer Straße and improving the living environment by enlarging the green and Open spaces.
education
In the area of the Lutherviertel there are two schools, namely the Vocational School Center for Economy I and the Rudolf School for primary school students.
traffic
The federal highway 174 ( Zschopauer Straße ) and the Staatsstraße 236 ( Augustusburger Straße ) touch the district.
The CVAG develops the district with the bus routes 62, 72, 82 and the night bus route N13. The Lutherviertel in the north is also affected by tram line 5.
The regional bus lines 206 and 207 serve all the stops along Zschopauer Straße.
