Furth , incorporated on July 1, 1913, is a northern part of Chemnitz through which the Chemnitz River flows. The district is rich in industrial facilities, including the Chemnitz-Nord thermal power station and the waste disposal company ASR on Blankenburgstrasse . Stadtwerke and Envia Mitteldeutsche Energie are located on Chemnitztalstrasse.

Neighboring districts are (clockwise from the north) Glösa , Ebersdorf , Zentrum , Schloßchemnitz and Borna . The boundary of the district is formed by the railway line to Rochlitz in the south and west and the railway line to Riesa in the east .

history

Furth is first mentioned in a document in 1338 (Forth), again in 1402 (Furt). The name suggests a ford through which the Chemnitz river flows. To the west of the Chemnitz river were the fish ponds of the Chemnitz Benedictine monastery , which is still reminiscent of the dam and fish path . Furth originally belonged to the Blankenau lordship , which came to the Chemnitz Monastery in 1338 and after its dissolution became part of the Chemnitz Office .

On Blankenauer Strasse, north of the two railway bridges, there was a former estate ("Die Scheibe"). At that time it was the largest estate (53.9 hectares) within the old city limits. From 1841 to 1843 it belonged to the "Committee of the Erzgebirge Railway", which initiated the construction of the first railway to Chemnitz. Until the Second World War it served as a destination with an inn and zoo. Today there is a gas station at this point .

This 40 m high, eight-storey building is located at Blankenauer Straße 74 and is now used as an office building by the Agilion company, among others.

Large parts of the Küchwald station , where the Küchwald – Obergrüna and Küchwald – Wechselburg lines branched off from the Chemnitz – Neukieritzsch main line, are located on the Further district . Today, the tracks are mainly used for freight transport to and from the thermal power station. Since December 5, 2018, the C11 trains of the Chemnitz City Railway have also stopped at Küchwald station.
