history

After German reunification in 1990, the energy combines in East Germany were converted into joint stock companies . When the Stadtwerke was re-established , the existing structures in the federal states in western Germany served as a model. The electricity industry was divided into three levels: network companies, regional suppliers and municipal utilities. Also the founding of the predecessor companies of today's enviaM AG, the regional electricity supplier Energieversorgung Spree-Schwarze Elster AG (ESSAG) in Cottbus , Energieversorgung Südsachsen AG (EVS AG) in Chemnitz , Mitteldeutsche Energieversorgung AG (MEAG) in Halle (Saale) and Westsächsische Energie AG (WESAG) in Markkleeberg , are an expression of this development. In February 1994, RWE AG acquired shares in this newly created company from the trust.

EnviaM AG emerged from two mergers. On May 10, 1999, ESSAG, EVS AG and WESAG merged to form envia Energie Sachsen Brandenburg AG. The seat was in Chemnitz. enviaM was created on August 7, 2002 from a merger of envia Energie Sachsen Brandenburg AG and MEAG.
