Luther Church (Chemnitz)
The Evangelical Luther Church on Zschopauer Straße is one of three churches in Chemnitz that bear the name of the reformer Martin Luther .
description
The church, built by the architect Otto Kuhlmann in neo-Romanesque style with a 64 meter high cross tower, was inaugurated on April 1, 1908 after four years of construction. It was one of the first reinforced concrete buildings in Chemnitz . Due to its location on a gently sloping terrain, it protrudes from the Lutherviertel , visible from afar .
Furnishing
The interior is kept in a moderate Art Nouveau style. The altar and the pulpit are made of brown shell limestone . The artist Otto Linnemann from Frankfurt designed the glass windows, but they were never made.
organ
The organ comes from Wilhelm Sauer (1908) and is largely preserved in its original condition after the restoration in 2007. The instrument has 50 sounding registers (approx. 3000 pipes ) on three manuals and a pedal .
