history

The first documentary mention of Kemtau as Kemnatz dates back to 1455. Like many neighboring villages, the village belonged to the Selva Lordship, later to the Scharfenstein Lordship . In 1486 the Scharfenstein rule came into the possession of Heinrich von Einsiedel.

In 1552 the ancestors of the Uhlig family founded a haulage company. In 1577 there were 9 farmers and 8 cottagers in Kemtau (mainly in the upper and lower villages). The first liege judge mentioned in a document was a Christoph Wieland from Kemtau in 1654. From 1800 the machine production of stockings and lace-making began as ancillary trade. In 1842 a hosiery association was established with Dittersdorf and Einsiedel, and from 1870 the wooden looms were replaced by iron round chairs.

The school on Burkhardtsdorfer Strasse was inaugurated in 1885.

In the following years several stocking factories were built in Kemtau:

1890: Uhlmann company
1896: Reinhardt company
1902: Harzer company
1906: Förster company
1907: Max Pfau
1919: Hlawaty company

In 1908 the place was connected to the power grid. In 1928, the gymnastics club built a gymnastics home with a sports field on its own initiative.

On October 1, 1935, Eibenberg was incorporated into Kemtau.

In 1954 the LPG Dittersdorf / Weißbach type B was founded. From 1955 the building was used by the Uhlmann family as a parish hall. The first day-care center in Kemtau was opened in 1959. The former stocking factory "Kemter" was expanded into a 10-class polytechnic high school for the students from Eibenberg and Kemtau. During this time, the community began to develop into a recreational area for Chemnitz .

After the political change in 1990, the unemployment rate was 42% because of the numerous company closings. In the same year the first doctor, Dr. A. Fiedler, settled in Kemtau. In 1991 the access road to the Cameroon district was renovated.

The expansion of the telephone network with the connection of all households and the renovation of the village pond in Eibenberg as well as the construction of the water treading basin in "Uhliggrund" took place in 1994.

The Eibenberg– Dittersdorf cycle path was opened in 1995. In the following year, a new Sparkasse service point opened on Bergstrasse and the “Am Feldrain” residential area was developed.

In 1997, the cycle path network was expanded and the B 180 Kemtau thoroughfare was renovated, and the street lighting was also renewed.

In 1998 the Mühlwegbrücke was built and the “Am Geiersberg” residential area was developed. From 2001, the former polytechnic high school was converted into a "community center" with a day-care center and crèche, integrative area, school daycare, auditorium, meeting place, evangelical social station, club rooms, dentist, rooms of the Burkhardtsdorf municipal administration, two children's playgrounds and parking spaces.

From 2001 to 2003 the Auental road was expanded and sewage and drinking water pipes were laid.
