history

Evangelical Church Eibenberg

The first written mention of the place dates from 1539/40 as Meidenbergk . In 1815 August Schumann mentions Eibenberg in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:

"It has, with the inclusion of the mill of four  courses on the Zwönitz , 260 residents over 10 years, with 92 cows and 10 sheep, and the city council is one of Ehrenfriedersdorf ."

Albert Schiffner added in 1828 a. a .:

“[...] came in 1381 along with Berbisdorf through purchase from Hanns v. Waldenburg and his sons Hanns and George to the church in Ehrenfriedersdorf, [...]; hence it is that the Church still pretends to own those villages. Eubenberg is located in a very mountainous and wooded area, […]. The place contains an inheritance court, 10 farms and around 35  cottagers who deliver a lot of hosiery. It is now estimated that there are close to 400 souls here. The higher courts belong to the office of Selva Val Gardena, and the village is parish to Harthau . "

The school system in the village can be traced back to 1831. After 1874 the number of students rose to 215, so that the existing school building no longer offered enough space. A new school building was consecrated in 1873.

In 1840 the Neueibenberg part of the settlement, the "extension" to Eibenberg, was built.

Before 1852 Eibenberg was under the Ehrenfriedersdorf City Court, after which it was placed under Chemnitz jurisdiction. Up until the turn of the 20th century, agriculture and stocking manufacture were the main livelihoods of the population. Since the beginning of the 1880s, the transition from house industry to factory industry took place.

Until a church was built, services were held in the school building, among other places. On April 28, 1901 the foundation stone was laid for a church building according to plans by the architect Paul Lange , and the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on July 4 of that year. The new building was consecrated on October 14, 1901.

With the opening of the “Eibenberg-Kemtau” station on May 1, 1905, Eibenberg received the railway connection on the Chemnitz – Adorf line . On October 8, 1939, the station was renamed "Kemtau".

In 1935 Eibenberg was incorporated into Kemtau. On January 1, 1999, the municipality of Burkhardtsdorf was rebuilt from the previously independent municipalities of Burkhardtsdorf, Kemtau and Meinersdorf.
