history

Foundation and first years

In 1832 an administrative reform took place in the Grand Duchy of Hesse and previous district councils were dissolved in favor of larger districts. The Ministry of the Interior and Justice advised the newly appointed district administrators in an "instruction" of September 18, 1832, of their duties. Section 81 of these instructions named the formation of savings and loan banks to avoid usury as an important goal. In Dieburg district attacked Friedrich scribbler on this. He drew up a draft of the statutes of the “savings fund for the Dieburg district” and on June 27 invited the district judges Martin from Groß-Umstadt and Gerau in Lichtenberg as well as the owner Schaub to a first meeting on the foundation. The statutes were based on the statutes of the Spar- und Leihkasse in the district of Dornberg (today's Kreissparkasse Groß-Gerau ). This was founded in 1826 as the first savings bank in the Grand Duchy of Hesse. However, the deliberations revealed that the Dornburg statutes were too restrictive. They only provided loans for mortgages and government bonds . Therefore, from the statutes of the Sparcasse und Credit Anstalt from the district of Kirtorf, the rule was adopted that every inhabitant of the district could receive credit against "adequate collateral". According to the statutes of 1834, the savings bank was organized as an association savings bank: Liability did not lie with the municipalities or the district, but with the shareholders. For this purpose, "shares" of 200 guilders were issued and drawn in sufficient quantities to be able to hold the founding meeting in autumn 1834. Schaub was elected as director, Mr. Karp as computer. In addition to the seat of the cash register in Groß-Umstadt, the computer should also carry out payment and reception days in Reinheim.

On the first Thursday of 1835, the Sparkasse's first payment and reception day took place in Bachtorstrasse 4 (at Hutmacher Drach's). In 1839 a second computer (the Pfersdorff church computer in Reinheim) was discontinued because of the good business. In 1838 alone, the fund had won 5529 guilders in cash and 12150 guilders in deposits by promissory note. 600 loans with a total volume of 26,979 guilders were issued. The good business also convinced the local councils of the municipalities belonging to the district to assume liability for the fund.

Separation of the coffers and reunification

The difficult traffic conditions, which had already led to the establishment of payment days in Reinheim and Groß-Umstadt, were the reason that the General Assembly on September 18, 1841 the separation into a "Sparcasse and Credit-Anstalt for the district court district Umstadt" and the "Sparcasse und Credit-Anstalt for the district court district Lichtenberg" (based in Reinheim) decided. At the beginning of 1844, the "Sparcasse und Credit-Anstalt für den Landgerichtistrict Lichtenberg" moved its headquarters from Reinheim to Groß-Bieberau and renamed itself Spar- und Creditkaße. On August 25, 1875, 15 communities in the district formed the "Sparcasse und Creditanstalt Reinheim". Now there were three savings banks in the district.

During the Second World War, on November 27, 1941, the Reich Ministry of Economics ordered the merger of the three cash registers to form the Kreissparkasse of the district of Dieburg.

Jubilee Foundation

In 1984 the Sparkasse established a foundation on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. The initial foundation capital of 500,000 German marks was increased and in 2011 reached a volume of five million euros. The foundation supports various projects, some of them one-off, some as part of long-term projects. One focus is the area of youth development, in which clubs and schools in particular are supported with long-term projects. Since the anniversary foundation was founded, over 2.5 million euros in funding have flowed into a wide variety of areas in the region.
