history
In February 1834, the royal Prussian district administrator of the Heiligenstadt district, Anton Freiherr von Bodungen, began planning the establishment of a savings bank in Heiligenstadt. The Sparkasse was founded in 1838. It had its place of business in the town hall in Heiligenstadt.
Today's Kreissparkasse Eichsfeld was created in the mid-1990s through the merger of the Kreissparkasse Heiligenstadt with the Kreissparkasse Worbis . The two predecessor institutes were each established in 1952 as part of the reorganization of the savings banks in the GDR .
