history

On 29 April 1830 the district was the district district Bensheim , Peter Joseph von Rüding that "Ersparungskasse in the District District Bensheim , based in Zwingenberg" was founded.

The constituent assembly took place on June 25, 1830 in the town hall in Zwingenberg, at which 88 members accepted the first statutes of the “savings fund in the district of Bensheim” and elected an administrative committee.

On July 1, 1830, the "Cassier" Andreas Schneider accepted the first payments: interest rate 4%, minimum payment one guilder .

Excerpt from the savings bank statutes of 1830: “This savings bank is intended to offer the opportunity to invest money, especially in small sums, in a useful and safe way and thereby serve to promote frugality and to remove reckless expenses. In particular, the servants and the children should get to know the value of money by saving and should be held back by useless fragmentation of it. "

The rapid increase in deposits shows that this goal was reached very soon:
at the end of the first year (1830), the cash balance was 77,294 guilders .
At the end of the second year (1831) the cash balance was 140,175 guilders .
At the end of the third year (1832) the cash balance was 172,213 guilders .

The Sparkasse Bensheim in its current form emerged from three formerly independent savings banks. The three original savings banks had their main offices in Zwingenberg , Lorsch and Bensheim .

1830: Foundation of the savings fund for the district of Bensheim with its seat in Zwingenberg (later then Bezirkssparkasse Zwingenberg)

1835: Founding of the Spar- und Leihkasse Lorsch (later District Savings Bank Lorsch ), also under District Administrator von Rüding. There are thus two savings banks in the Bensheim district. The Spar- und Leihkasse Lorsch opened branches in Viernheim , Lampertheim and Biblis in 1875 . In 1927 branches were added in Bürstadt and Hofheim . In 1942 the branches in Lampertheim, Biblis, Bürstadt and Hofheim were transferred to what was then Kreissparkasse Worms due to a resolution by the Hessian state government to reorganize the savings banks in Hesse . The branch in Viernheim was transferred to the then District Savings Bank in Heppenheim in 1942 .

1931: The Bensheim district savings bank is founded by splitting off from the Zwingenberg parent institute

In 1925, the District Savings Bank Zwingenberg was transformed into District Savings Bank Zwingenberg-Bensheim, each with an independent computing center in Zwingenberg and Bensheim.

Due to the strong economic area and the corresponding development of the Bensheim branch, in 1931 the Bensheimer Sparkasse broke away from the Zwingenberg parent institute to become the independent District Savings Bank Bensheim. The Reichenbach branch office is now part of the Bensheim district savings bank.

Thus from 1931 there were three independent savings banks, which had their headquarters in Bensheim, Lorsch and Zwingenberg, in today's business area of the Sparkasse Bensheim.

In 1941, the previously independent district savings bank Lorsch was integrated into the district savings bank Bensheim on the basis of a resolution by the Hessian state government to reorganize the savings banks in Hesse.

In 1942, the Bezirkssparkasse Zwingenberg, which had also been independent up to this point, was transferred to the Bezirkssparkasse Bensheim. Thus, from the three previously independent savings banks, the district savings bank Bensheim emerged in its current form.

In 1998 the name was finally changed from Bezirkssparkasse Bensheim to Sparkasse Bensheim.

In May 2002 the customer service center (headquarters of Sparkasse Bensheim) was inaugurated after a two-year renovation period.
