geography

location

Waldsolms is located in the eastern Hintertaunus , in the Taunus Nature Park between Wetzlar and Usingen and is traversed by the Solmsbach , where several places in the municipality, in particular the main town of Brandoberndorf , are located.

The southernmost point of the Lahn-Dill district is on the border with the municipality of Grävenwiesbach .

Neighboring communities

Waldsolms borders in the north on the town of Braunfels and the community Schöffengrund (both in the Lahn-Dill district), in the east on the community Langgöns ( district of Gießen ), in the southeast on the town of Butzbach ( Wetteraukreis ), in the south on the community Grävenwiesbach ( Hochtaunuskreis ) and in the west to the community of Weilmünster ( district of Limburg-Weilburg ).

The community consists of the districts Brandoberndorf (seat of the community administration), Griedelbach , Hasselborn , Kraftsolms , Kröffelbach and Weiperfelden .

history

As part of the Hessian regional reform , on December 31, 1971, the previously independent communities of Brandoberndorf, Griedelbach, Hasselborn, Kraftsolms, Kröffelbach and Weiperfelden merged voluntarily to form the new overall community of Waldsolms.

Catholic Church Maria Hilf in Brandoberndorf

The Coptic Monastery of St. Antonius is located in the district of Kröffelbach . It has a church with a campanile , both of which were built on the model of Coptic churches in Egypt . The monastery is the most important Coptic center in Europe and at the same time an interdenominational meeting place. The listed Evangelical Church of Brandoberndorf is also worth seeing

Brandoberndorf has been the terminus of the Taunusbahn from Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof, operated by Hessische Landesbahn GmbH as RMV line 15, since 2000 . Another stop on the Taunusbahn is in the Hasselborn district. From 1912 to 1985 the Solmstalbahn ran here from Wetzlar to Grävenwiesbach, which has since been dismantled towards Wetzlar.
