Mittenaar is a municipality in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse .

Mittenaar is located in the Hörre , a heavily wooded and up to 445 m high mountain range and sub- natural area of the Gladenbacher Bergland .
Expansion of the area
Over 5000 people live on 3518 hectares. Around 45 km of roads connect the districts. The proportion of forest in the district is over 50%.
Neighboring communities
Mittenaar borders the municipality of Siegbach in the north, the municipality of Bischoffen in the northeast, the municipality of Hohenahr in the east, the city of Asslar in the southeast, the municipality of Ehringshausen in the south, the municipality of Sinn in the southwest and the city of Herborn in the west (all in the Lahn-Dill district).

history
The municipality of Mittenaar was created on December 31, 1971 in the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Ballersbach, Bicken and Offenbach. Bellersdorf was incorporated on April 1, 1972.

The mayoral election took place on September 22, 2013, in which Markus Deusing (SPD) prevailed from a total of 7 candidates with 52.1% of the votes. On October 22nd, he succeeded Gerrit Klingelhöfer, who had resigned his mayor's post after only four weeks in office due to allegations of infidelity.

Description : In black a golden (yellow) oblique left wave bar above accompanied by a golden (yellow) clover leaf. Two silver bars below. In addition to the wavy bar as a symbol for the Aar flowing through the municipality, the coat of arms shows two coat of arms symbols of former noble families who were wealthy in the municipality: the clover leaf for the Lords of Dernbach (Alt-Dernbach = Herborn-Seelbach) and the two bars of the Lords of Bicken (see above).
Culture
music
On December 9, 1950, the Bicken Spielmannszug was founded and has been known as the Bicken Musikzug since 1967. The repertoire is determined by Bohemian-Moravian brass music.
The youth choir “Young Voices Mittenaar” was brought into being in January 2000 through an initiative of three choirs, MGV 1861 Ballersbach, GV Sängervereinigung 1860 Bicken and GV Eintracht Offenbach. The repertoire includes spirituals, gospels, evergreens and more modern pieces.
