history
Offenbach was first mentioned in 1269 in a document from Johann von Dernbach.
In the terrible years of the Thirty Years' War , at the end of April 1635, the hordes of the imperial general Philipp von Mansfeld attacked the Aartal villages and set fire to the houses. 60 buildings burned in Offenbach, 53 in Bicken and 18 in Ballersbach.
A dark chapter of the great war, the witch hunt, also remained unforgotten . In 1629/1630 their own fellow citizens put 6 women and men at the stake in Offenbach, 18 in Bicken and also 6 in Ballersbach.
As the oldest cultural monument , the tower of the Offenbach church houses a bell from 1452, which has been in continuous use since then. The increased number of inhabitants made an expansion of the nave in Offenbach necessary in 1955/1956.
In 2019 Offenbach celebrated its 750th anniversary with a big festival weekend.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the communities Offenbach, Bicken and Ballersbach voluntarily merged on December 31, 1971 to form the community of Mittenaar.
