|
Ballersbach is a district of the Mittenaar community in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse .
Geographical location
Ballersbach is located on the northern edge of the Hörre ridge belonging to the Gladenbacher Bergland , the highest point of which, the Alteburg ( 445.1 m ), rises south-east of the village. It is located around 1.4 km southwest of Bicken , the main town of Mittenaar. The village is traversed by the Ballersbach , which flows into the Aar shortly afterwards . The federal road 255 (Bicken – Ballersbach– Seelbach ) runs north , from which the district road 58 branches off and leads into the village as a spur road that crosses the Aar.
history
Ballersbach was first mentioned in a document in 1270. The Ballersbacher Kirche (Capelle zu Ballersbach) was probably also built during this time. That the chapel had a special meaning can be seen from the fact that the much larger village Herbornseelbach was later assigned to it. Ballersbach grew in the course of time from the older settlement core to the north around the "Baalerstaa" (Balder or Baldurstein) with the district to the south. Around 1500 the church was painted with wonderful frescoes , which, however, were hardly visible over the years due to the deterioration of the church.
In the Thirty Years' War was the village from the plague struck. 165 people died of the then incurable disease. Only 85 inhabitants survived during this period of horror. It took Ballersbach over a hundred years to recover from this catastrophe.
In 1912 the church was badly damaged by a violent lightning strike . During the renovation work, however, the wonderful frescoes came to light again. These paintings are a symbolic representation of human history and the early history of Christianity in individual images. In 1993 an extensive renovation of the works of art took place in order to secure them for future generations.
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Ballersbach, Bicken and Offenbach voluntarily merged on December 31, 1971 to form the municipality of Mittenaar.

coat of arms
On June 27, 2010, the citizens of Ballersbach were given the first coat of arms . The ceremonial handover took place during the family day of the Protestant parish. The coat of arms shows a stylized six-petalled rose blossom and a four-spoke mill wheel on a blue and gold shield. Both motifs are taken from the late Gothic frescoes of the church. The colors blue and gold symbolize the colors of the Duchy of Nassau . The blazon according HHStA ( Hessian State Archives ) reads: "In the blue and gold shield divided diagonally left above sechsblättriger golden stamens, below vierspeichiges blue water wheel."
