The Alteburg near Ballersbach in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse is 445.1 m above sea level. NHN the highest mountain of the Hörre ridge in the Gladenbacher Bergland .
Geographical location
The Alteburg rises in the south of the Lahn-Dill-Bergland nature park in the center of the Hörre. Its summit is 1.6 km south-east of Ballersbach , 2.2 km south of Mittenaar , 3 km west-north-west of Bellersdorf , 2.4 km north-north-west of Dreisbach and 4.3 km (as the crow flies ) north-east of Sinn . The small Ballersbach rises on the mountain and flows roughly north and through the village of the same name to the Aar . To the east to northeast, its landscape slopes down to the Gettenbach tributary to the Aar. The small Bragbach rises to the south-east of the mountain and takes up the Flickersbach, which swells on the southern flank of the mountain, and flows into the Amstelbach (Dreisbach) , which rises somewhat west of the Flickersbach ; the latter flows through the village of Dreisbach near the mountain to the Lemp .
Natural allocation and bird sanctuary
The wooded Alteburg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Westerwald (No. 32), the main unit Gladenbacher Bergland (320) and the subunit Lahn-Dill-Bergland (320.0) to the natural area Hörre (320.04).
Parts of the Hörre bird sanctuary near Herborn and Lemptal (VSG no. 5316-402), which is 50.66 km² in size, are located on the mountain .
Traffic and walking
The federal road 255 (Bicken – Ballersbach– Seelbach ) runs north past the Hörre and the Alteburg , from which the district road 58 branches off and leads as a spur road that crosses the Aar into the village of Ballersbach . To the south of the mountain, between Kölschhausen and Niederlemp, district road 389 branches off from state road 3052 as a spur road leading along the Amstelbach (Dreisbach) to Dreisbach . For example, starting at these roads, the mountain can be hiked on mostly forest trails and paths. The former Rennweg leads over the southern flank of the mountain .
