History and architecture

Historical view

The late Romanesque , former choir tower was built in the third quarter of the 13th century. In later times the upper floors of the tower were removed and the former tower hall equipped with a groin vault and seating niches. The building was badly damaged in a lightning strike in 1912. The originally single-nave nave was expanded from 1914 to 1916 with a west choir and a south aisle . During the renovation, remarkable wall paintings from the second half of the 15th century were uncovered. On the north wall the Annunciation, the birth of Christ , the Adoration of the Magi and a depiction of St. Christopher . Four more scenes on this wall, the creation of man, the fall of man, the expulsion from paradise and depiction of the domestic life of Adam and Eve , were transferred to the east wall. The frescoes of the broken south wall, carrying and erecting the cross, were installed in the new choir . In the 1950s the frescoes were repainted and in 1992 the state of 1912 was restored.
