history

As part of the regional reform in Hesse, the communities of Laufdorf, Niederquembach, Niederwetz, Oberquembach, Oberwetz and Schwalbach merged on December 31, 1971 and chose the historical name Schöffengrund. The name Schöffengrund comes from an old judicial district, the so-called "Quembach court", which had its meal on the "Stein" near Oberquembach. This is where the "lay judges" from respected families from the villages belonging to the district court met for the meetings of the district court.
