Laufdorf is one of the largest districts in the community of Schöffengrund in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse .
geography
The place lies in the north of the eastern Hintertaunus and belongs to the Wetzlarer Hintertaunus . At the same time, Laufdorf is part of the Taunus Nature Park . The village is located on a hill between Solmsbach and Wetzbach , which it shares with the neighboring village of Schwalbach to the south . The Hainbach rises near Laufdorf and flows westwards and flows into the Solmsbach in Bonbaden . The next big city is Wetzlar .
history
It can be assumed that the area around Laufdorf was populated at least since the Neolithic Age. Today's field names also indicate a Celtic settlement. They also operated iron smelting here, for which they used brown iron ore that came to the surface.
The village was first mentioned in a document in the Lorsch Codex as early as 776 as Lauptorf or 779 as Louptorph . At this time, over 2,800 donations were made to Lorsch Abbey from the Laufdorf area . Including part of an iron ore mine. These donations quickly came into the possession of the monastery in Fulda and were also influenced by the Counts of Solms . The Altenberg monastery and the Wetzlar monastery also had their own estates in Laufdorf in the Middle Ages.
During the Thirty Years War , Spanish troops burned the village. After the Congress of Vienna , Laufdorf, located in the Braunfels office , came to the newly created mayor's office in Braunfels and became part of it with the establishment of the Schöffengrund mayor's office in 1841.
Territorial reform
On December 31, 1971, the independent municipality of Laufdorf merged with five other municipalities as part of the Hessian regional reform to form the large municipality of Schöffengrund.

The hall structure of the church and the bell ridge come from the Middle Ages . The rectangular choir was added probably towards the end of the 17th century . Also worth mentioning is the west entrance with its wooden walls and carved pilasters and the baroque door. There is also a war memorial from 1957 in the churchyard.
Backhaus and Laufdorfer Linde
The Laufdorf bakery , which was partly built in a post- and- beam construction, characterizes the townscape. Today's appearance is largely from the late 18th century. The Laufdorf linden tree, which stands next to the bakery in the center of the village, is also historically interesting.
