Zufar ibn al-Hudhail

Zufar ibn al-Hudhail ( Arabic زفر بن الهُذيل, DMG Zufar ibn al-Huḏayl ; * 728 in Isfahan ; † 774 in Basra ) was an Islamic religious scholar of the Hanefi School of Law .

Behind the al-Imamain (The Two Imams) Abu Yusuf and al-Shaibani, he is considered the most important student of Abu Hanifa .

His father (Hudhail) served as governor in Isfahan and Basra . Abu Hanifa is said to have particularly valued Zufar, both of whom were of Persian descent. Zufar left no written work, but many of his statements can be found in Hanafi law books and in hadith collections.
