Franconia / Italy
- Charlemagne stayed in Italy again and subjugated the Duchy of Spoleto , where he installed Hildeprand as Duke.
- During the Saxon Wars , the Saxons used Charlemagne's absence to launch a new counterattack and again conquered the Eresburg and Hohensyburg .
- Charlemagne forces a number of franc-friendly nobles to sign a treaty with him.
- Duke Hrodgaud of Friuli rises up against Charlemagne, but is defeated and killed by him in battle. The Duchy of Friuli is dissolved and incorporated into the Franconian Empire as a border march . Marcarius is used as administrator.
