About this picture

Ober-Flörsheim is a municipality in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Alzey-Land association.

Geographical location

Ober-Flörsheim is located on a high plateau in the Rhine-Hessian wine-growing region .

history

Flarlesheim superiori was first mentioned in 776 in a list of donations from Lorsch Abbey . From 1237 until the end of the 18th century, the Teutonic Order Commander Ober-Flörsheim existed here , whose preserved buildings are characteristic of the town.

Since 1506 Ober-Flörsheim belonged to the Electoral Palatinate and was subordinate to the Oberamt Alzey . During the Thirty Years' War , Swedish troops devastated the soldiers and the village. In 1689, the devastation of the Palatinate by French troops under King Louis XIV again hit the place seriously.

During the wars after the French Revolution , there was a battle near Ober-Flörsheim on March 30, 1793, in which the Prussians defeated the French . This victory could not prevent the final success of the French, so that Ober-Flörsheim annexed with the other areas on the left bank of the Rhine and in 1798 became part of the department of Mont Tonnerre ( Donnersberg ).

After the defeat of the French Empire , Ober-Flörsheim became part of the newly created province of Rheinhessen in the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1816 .

After the dissolution of the Rhine-Hessian cantons, the place came in 1835 to the newly established Worms district , to which it belonged until November 1, 1938. In the course of the regional reform at the time, he joined the Alzey district , which was renamed the Alzey district shortly afterwards .

American troops occupied the place on March 20, 1945, but it was added to the French occupation zone in the summer of 1945 and became part of the new state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946 . The district of Alzey continued until the administrative reform of June 7, 1969, in the course of which the majority of it was dissolved in the district of Alzey-Worms , to which Ober-Flörsheim has belonged ever since.

Ober-Flörsheim has been part of the Alzey-Land community since 1972 .

religion

Reformed in the 16th century, Catholic worship was reintroduced in 1698. In 1705, with the division of the Palatinate church , the Reformed regained control of the parish church. In the long term, both denominations coexisted. In 1747 the Lutheran Confession was the third denomination to build a church in the village. In 1876 the Free Protestant Congregation , a split from the Evangelicals, was founded.

music

In addition to the men's choir Sängerkranz from 1855, which also has a women's choir, there is also the Catholic Church Music Association from 1912 and a Protestant church choir.

Buildings

Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, built in 1776/1777 in place of the old parish church, which was given to the Reformed in 1705 after the Palatinate church was divided. The Teutonic Order, which held the patronage for the Catholic community, opposed the decision and upheld the property rights for the Catholics in a long legal dispute. As a result of the disputes, however, the old church fell apart, so that the baroque style new building was necessary. The bell tower was not added until 1930.

The Protestant church was built in the neo-Gothic style in 1887/88, it was renovated in 1961–65 and 1976–78, as indicated by a sandstone block on the west side of the tower.

The baroque, castle-like Komturhaus, the Schaffnerei opposite, a medieval gate tower and the remnants of the defensive walls of the district were preserved from the German Order Coming Ober-Flörsheim . They shape the townscape.

A late baroque courtyard in Alzeyer Strasse, separated from the town hall by Weedegasse, with a typical hipped mansard roof, is particularly worth seeing . This was created at the end of the 18th century.
