The wine-growing community of Wonsheim is located in the largest wine-growing district in Germany and in the middle of the Rheinhessen wine-growing region and its landscape protection and local recreation area Rheinhessen Switzerland . The closest larger city is Bad Kreuznach (approx. 10 kilometers northwest).

The place was first mentioned on June 10, 800 in a deed of donation to the Fulda monastery as Vuanesheim .
