geography
Geographical location
Wörrstadt is located in Rheinhessen on the northwestern edge of the Upper Rhine Plain . The Rhineland-Palatinate state capital Mainz is approx. 15 kilometers north of the city (as the crow flies), the district town of Alzey is approx. 10 kilometers south of Wörrstadt. The district of Rommersheim belongs to Wörrstadt and is located in a depression in the southwest of the city.
Wörrstadt is surrounded by the typical Rhine-Hessian cultural landscape: intensive viticulture is practiced in the favorable areas, and arable farming in the less exposed locations. The Rhine-Hessian landscape has largely been cleared and the natural vegetation is hardly or not at all. Wörrstadt has a special feature for Rheinhessen : with the Neuborn , the city has one of the few forest areas in the region. There are many natural springs in this forest area, the water of which feeds the swimming pool of the association, the Neubornbad . The Mühlbach flows through Wörrstadt .

Is considered a settlement of today's urban area. Rommersheim , whose name was Eichloch until 1931, is first mentioned in 824.
The Laurentiuskirche was built around 1100 as a fortified church. There was an earlier church in the 8th century. The second church was burned down by a lightning strike around 1600 and was rebuilt. The previous church was taller, but it is still the tallest building in town. You can see them as you drive by from federal highway 420 . The Catholic Church was built in the 18th century and stands next to the Laurentius Church, which has been Protestant since the 16th century. The Rommersheim Church was built between 1733 and 1751. The old crucifix suggests a very old church.
On November 7, 1970, Rommersheim was incorporated into Wörrstadt with 432 residents at the time. September 4, 2009 Wörrstadt was Prime Minister Kurt Beck , the city charter granted.
